PAUL WRITES:
This song is the song that has the same bass line in the verses as HOLD IT INSIDE, but this was my original version.
This is sort of an ode to Jane's Addiction's I WOULD. I heard that song on some live cassette tape I got from a buddy a long, long time ago. I've never tracked down that song again, but I loved how it didn't have a guitar line.
Being a former bass player myself, I think the bass can be very melodic and I think you'll hear that on this track.
The lyrics are loosely based on something I read somewhere. It was about this couple that fell in love in Vietnam. The man was an American soldier and the woman was Vietnamese. They fell in love during the war, while narrowly escaping death from the war, her families' displeasure, fellow soldiers who questioned just what he was doing, etc.
Well, during this tumultuous time, she got pregnant. They made it to America and they had a boy who grew up strong and healthy. But, alas, he had to go to war when he got old enough.
Needless to say, the son didn't make it. So sad to me...
